My Journey from Small-Town Dreams to a Career in Law Enforcement and Academia

Growing up in a small town in northern New Jersey, I always dreamed of becoming a law enforcement officer. The duty and the desire to protect and serve my community drove my ambitions from a young age. This passion led me on a journey that has taken me from my hometown to various law enforcement and academia roles, culminating in a fulfilling career I am deeply proud of.

Education and Early Experience

My journey began when I moved to Virginia to pursue my education at Virginia Union University. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Criminology there. My time at Virginia Union was transformative. Not only did I gain a solid academic foundation, but I also immersed myself in practical experiences that shaped my understanding of the criminal justice system.

While at Virginia Union University, I volunteered at the Department of Corrections Gang Unit Division. This opportunity allowed me to gain firsthand experience in managing complex issues related to gang activity and inmate rehabilitation. Concurrently, I worked at the Virginia Union Police Department, which provided me with practical law enforcement experience and a deep appreciation for campus safety and community policing.

Transition to Henrico County Sheriff's Office

I also took on a part-time role at the Henrico County Sheriff's Office during my undergraduate years. This position was my first official step into law enforcement and solidified my commitment to this career path. After graduating, I transitioned to a full-time role at the Henrico Sheriff's Department, where I continued to develop my skills and knowledge.

Advanced Education and Career Progression

Recognizing the importance of continuous education, I began my Master's degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. However, as my career advanced, I transferred to the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office and decided to continue my studies at ECPI University. This decision proved to be pivotal. At ECPI, I thrived academically, graduating as valedictorian—a testament to my dedication and hard work.

Pursuing a Ph.D. and Academic Roles

My educational journey continued. I am a Liberty University student pursuing a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and Leadership. With only my dissertation left to complete, I am eager to contribute original research and further enhance my expertise.

In addition to my studies, I have embraced roles in academia as an adjunct professor and guest speaker at four universities and community colleges. Teaching has been an enriching experience, allowing me to share my knowledge and passion for criminal justice with future professionals. It also keeps me engaged with the latest developments and challenges in the field, fostering a continuous learning environment.

Current Role in the Federal Government

Today, I work in the federal government in Washington, DC, holding a confidential clearance. This role has broadened my horizons and allowed me to contribute to national security and public safety on a larger scale. The federal government has shaped me into a dedicated and influential employee, instilling a sense of purpose and pride in my work.

Looking Forward

Reflecting on my journey, I am grateful for the diverse experiences and opportunities shaping my career. From my early dreams in northern New Jersey to my current law enforcement and academia roles, each step has reinforced my commitment to public service and personal growth. As I near the completion of my Ph.D.,

I look forward to continuing to contribute to the criminal justice field, inspiring the next generation of law enforcement professionals, and making a meaningful impact in my community and beyond.

In conclusion, my path has been marked by hard work, dedication, and an unwavering passion for justice. I am excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead, and I remain committed to serving and protecting, both in the classroom and the field.
